My Braai Board Smoke Shavings
Fragrant wood plank shavings for smoking on the Braai
Available in Cedar, Cherry, Maple or Oak.
Soak half of the required amount of shavings in water, wine or fruit juice for 30 mins. Combine with the equal amount of dry chips and mix well. Create a pouch from tin foil and place shavings in centre. Fold closed, and prick both sides of the pouch. Place directly onto coals, add food to the braai and close the lid. Most of the smoke is absorbed during the first hour of smkoing – Avoid opening the braai / smoker during this time. Optimal hot / direct smoking is done at a constant 80 Degrees Celsius – maintain this temperature – Opening will cause a temp drop.
The dry chips will smoke first, and as the moist chips dry out, they will begin to smoke providing a longer and more consistent smoking experience.
